For some reason you may want to restart all of the services on your Microsoft Exchange Server. You may want to do this when you have issues with Exchange and you cannot be bothered finding out which exact service needs restarting. This can be done easily by a simple PowerShell script. Below is the script to stop and start all services.

Please note some of your Exchange services may be set to disabled please check to and edit the script appropriately, then copy and paste into PowerShell.

What is Remote Desktop?

Remote Desktop Protocol or RDP is the built into Microsoft Windows products. Remote Desktop Protocol is a proprietary protocol which is used to control another system, unlike SSH and Telnet RDP gives you a graphical interface to interact with the remote system.

When you remote into a computer/server using RDP some of the normal shortcut keys are changed for the remote computer.

RDP Shortcut Keys

ALT+PAGE UP – Switches between programs from left to right.

ALT+PAGE DOWN – Switches between programs for right to left.

ALT+INSERT – Cycles through the programs in the order they were started.

ALT+HOME – Displays the Start menu.

CTRL+ALT+BREAK – Switches the client between full-screen mode and window mode.

CTRL+ALT+END – Brings up the Windows Security dialog box.

ALT+DELETE – Displays the Windows menu.

CTRL+ALT+MINUS SIGN (-) – Places a snapshot of the active window, within the client, on the Remote Desktop Session Host (RD Session Host) server clipboard (provides the same functionality as pressing ALT+PRINT SCREEN on the local computer).

CTRL+ALT+PLUS SIGN (+) – Places a snapshot of the entire client windows area on the RD Session Host server clipboard (provides the same functionality as pressing PRINT SCREEN on the local computer).

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

These sort of errors can be caused by bad or corrupt add-ons so I started outlook in safe mode using outlook.exe /safe in a run box but still I got the script error.

I noticed that Outlook 2013 was opening to personal folders by default.

I changed the default opening folder to Inbox instead. (See: How to change default startup folder in outlook)

Then when I opened outlook it opened normally. If I selected personal folders the script error occurred again.

So it turns out this error is something to do with the personal folders.

I decided to do an online repair.

After that the error was fixed. I am not really sure what caused this error, but it seemed to fix it. If anyone knows how to the reason behind this error please let me know.

Error message
AppleSyncNotifier,exe Error message

Today I had a Windows 7 computer with the following error every time when the computer was logging in:

AppleSyncNotifier.exe Entry Point Not Found
“The procedure entry point sqlite3_wal_checkpoint could not be located in the dynamic link library SQLite3.dll”

Turns out this error is because the SQLite3.dll file is missing out of the “C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support” folder and when Windows starts it loads a bunch of Apple software(one of them being  AppleSyncNotifier.exe). I’m not sure why it goes missing, might be because of a virus but I couldn’t find any viruses or any in the virus chest/logs.

Fix the AppleSyncNotifier.exe Entry Point Not Found Error

To fix the error it is quite easy. You need to go to the folder that contains the apple support files:

  • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support

Then you will need to copy the following files:

  • libxml2.dll
  • SQLite3.dll

Now navigate to the folder:

  • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support

And paste those two files in the “Mobile Device Support” folder and reboot your computer. Now when you log on the AppleSyncNotifier error will not pop up.

I have been using Ubuntu 13.10 as my daily OS on my laptop for a while now and I find it quite good. One thing I didn’t like though was the default Bit Torrent client (Transmission) that is installed on it and I wanted to get rid of it.

The actual package name is transmission -gtk so we need to use the the apt-get purge command to remove it. Refer to the command below:

sudo apt-get purge transmission-gtk

Now the Transmission bit torrent client is removed, if you look in your dash search screen it will be gone.Transmission gone dash

Evernote logoEvernote is a wonderful tool that you can use to take notes, store pictures and documents. Evernote is not officially supported in Linux, luckily there is WINE (which quite funnily stands for Wine Is Not an Emulator) which will work on other Linux distributions and also the open source community have created a lens for Unity called Everpad. This article is using Ubuntu 13.10 but that is only because Ubuntu 13.10 is the version that I have installed.

Install Evernote on Linux using WINE

Installing this way will work with other flavours of Ubuntu, like Xubuntu and Lunubtu and should also work with other linux distibutions as long as you have wine working properly.
First you will need to install WINE. To install WINE just open a terminal and run the command:

  • sudo apt-get install wine

It may take a while depending on your internet speed because the download is around 150MB.

Once WINE is installed you need to open Wine configuration. Just search wine configuration in Ubuntu search. Then under the applicaitons tab set it to “Windows 7” like in the picture below.WINE config

Now that the Windows Version is set to Windows 7 you need to download the Evernote Windows software from the Evernote download page. Once evernote is downloaded run the evernote exe file and it will install the software using Wine.

Once Evernote is installed using Wine then you just need to run it and log in.

Install EverPad on Linux

Everpad is a client(unofficial) made for Unity that integrates Evernote notes directly into your search bar.

Everpad screenshotTo install Everpad you need to add the repository and then install using apt-get so open a terminal and run the following commands:

  • sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nvbn-rm/ppa
  • sudo apt-get update
  • sudo apt-get install everpad

Now it is installed search for Everpad in the Unity Dash and open it. Click on the settings and management and configure your account.

Now you can search for your notes in the Unity Dash.

Exchange Management Shell command attempted:
‘domainname.local/MyBusiness/Users/SBSUsers/test’ | move-mailbox -TargetDatabase ‘SERVERNAME\First Storage Group\Mailbox Database’

Elapsed Time: 00:00:21

This had me stumped, I checked to make sure all of the Exchange Server services were started and they were so I went to and started searching on the old google machine.

Turns out this has something to do with the Exchange System Attendant Service.

So I restarted the System Attendant Service and it worked.

So to fix MapiExceptionNetworkError: Unable to make admin interface connection to server. error you need to restart the System Attendant Service.

I got a Windows 8.1 workstation computer in the other day, sometimes when it was shutting down it would get an error message pop up saying:

AcStBmhE.exe

The application failed to start correctly 0xc0000142

I ended up tracking it down to a faulty NVidia Quadro driver.

To fix this just download the latest NVidia ODE driver which is the official driver for NVidia Quadro 600K(that is the GPU installed).

Make sure you download the driver from the official NVidia support site in the driver downloads section. http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspxNVidia quadro driver
Not sure if this fix will work for you but it did work for me.

This error is can happen when opening a file in Excel 2013, Word 2013, Publisher 2013, Access 2013, Visio 2013 or PowerPoint 2013. It makes it so you cannot open any of your office software, when you double click on the icon it will just hang and nothing comes up.

All that will appear is:

“There was a problem sending the command to the program”

To fix this error you need to open a run box (windows key + R) and run the following command:

winword.exe /R

Or which ever executable is not responding correctly. The /R parameter will re-register the program to the registry.

If this error happens with another program you will need to see if you can re-register that program or you may need to do repair installation.
